The Film 'Together' Can Be Streamed, and It Might Make or Break Your Relationship.

We present a challenge for partners in committed relationships who enjoy horror films: Settle in with your loved one and watch Together. The independent film success of 2025 has now made its launch on a streaming platform via Hulu. On the surface, it may seem like conventional biological terror, but within Together resides a profound examination about how we choose to love each other.

An Introductory Film Exploring The Nuances of Love

Together represents the first full-length movie for director Michael Shanks. It stars Dave Franco and Alison Brie as a couple named Tim and Millie, partners that have stayed together for a decade. Married in real life in 2017, the actors infuse a special spark to their portrayals, skillfully embodying both the good and bad of a enduring union.

The story begins when Tim and Millie relocate from the urban environment to the country for professional reasons. A somewhat stereotypical plot device, admittedly, but that’s mostly where the conventions conclude. Together evolves into as much a examination of mental states of the partnership as it is a body horror flick.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While trekking near their new home, a violent storm occurs, and Millie and Tim fall into an underground cave. After a night spent there and eventually escaping, a mysterious influence starts to affect the pair. This force compels a supernatural closeness between them that goes far beyond typical partnership.

The whole movie is a methodically building horror experience, blending moments of fever-dream horrors, disturbing (but not excessively graphic) biological grotesqueries, and genuinely funny dialogue (sometimes amidst something disturbing). The director orchestrates these parts seamlessly and delivers them in a slowly mounting sense of impending doom.

Complex Characterizations

A great deal of Together is only the two lead actors, and they masterfully render manifold depths to the characters’ relationship. Her self-assurance and sense of connection is deteriorating due to a distance. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his unwillingness to pursue anything but his floundering music career slowly bubbles to the surface.

Tim, on the other hand senses confinement and separated by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve relocated rural and far away from his social circle. He dreads the notion of utterly sacrificing his personal autonomy in his partner. This fear is further exacerbated by the circumstance he does not operate a vehicle and needs Millie for transportation.

The director's cleverest decision in Together avoids making Tim or Millie the clear bad guy.

The couple confront the sort of issues that arise in any relationship a decade in. Fundamentally, they continue to care for each other. They share moments of joy, provide solace, and are vulnerable at times. But beneath it all, there’s an inescapable undercurrent of doubt about their relationship.

Allegory and Meaning

While the supernatural forces in Together represent these concerns of excessive reliance and totally devoting oneself to another person, the metaphor does not come across as hamfisted or pretentious. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes offer a ideal counterpart to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the supernatural and the personal serve the other in harmony.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s ending, which won’t be spoiled here, has created disagreement on the movie's final takeaway about unhealthy partnerships. Accounts suggest that unattached audience members have understood the narrative as a strong argument for remaining unattached. On the other hand, some couples who were in conflict found that the film ended up guiding them to reconcile.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own response could potentially serve as a great barometer of how you think about commitment. Will the finale plant a sense of discomfort and fear, or a positive outlook on love? Will you see yourself in Tim or Millie and yell at the screen, or simply look at your significant other and utter, “I understand that choice”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an experiment you can embark on at this very moment.
